About Our Client

Michael Page Procurement & Supply Chain are working with a highly successful UK Food Manufacturer, based in Lancashire, who are looking to appoint a newly created Strategic Buyer.

This opportunity comes as the business is continuing to grow and they are looking for a driven and passionate individual capable of managing pivotal and increasingly important categories, delivering greater supply efficiency's, and improvements across supplier quality and sustainability.

Job Description

The Strategic Buyer will strategically source raw materials (circa. £20million+ spend) to improve quality and provide for innovative opportunities at the lowest total cost of ownership:

  • Develop innovative supplier partnerships to support a lean & profitable supply chain.
  • Manage supplier performance and implement scorecard to align business objectives on cost, quality OTIF, lead-times etc.
  • Identify areas of risk in the supply chain, prioritise and implement plans to mitigate such risks.
  • Conduct contract negotiation and ongoing market (price) analysis and report conclusions.
  • Prepare requests for Tender (RFQ's) and documentation.
  • Collation and reporting of cost saving against targets and track impact of profitability.

The Successful Applicant

Successful candidates will possess:

  • Thorough understanding of procurement processes and category management
  • Previous experience in a category management role, ideally within food, drink or FMCG businesses
  • Experience of managing a raw material spend would be beneficial
  • Understanding of contract principles and clauses and be able to construct an interpret agreements
  • You'll have strong project leadership, with a proven track record of delivering cross-functional projects working with various teams.
  • You will be commercially aware with experience in a result-driven environment, ideally with responsibility for delivering a P&L.
  • Degree level qualification, ideally business related
  • Associate or student of CIPS, or working to CIPS qualification would be beneficial, but not essential

What's on Offer

  • £50-60k, depending upon experience
  • Bonus, Pens, 25days+BH
  • Flexibility to WFH, circa. 3 days onsite
