Job Description

As the IT Manager, you will be tasked with overseeing the management of IT Infrastructure and Service Desk services at our UK headquarters, working closely with the global IT team, including functions such as Service Desk and Infrastructure. You will play a pivotal role in the design and execution of technological solutions deployed at the site.

Operating within a matrix model, your responsibilities will extend to being the people manager for IT resources based at the UK HQ, while also reporting to the global IT functions.

This role will encompass responsibilities such as overseeing the procurement of IT equipment, managing the local IT infrastructure and service desk budget, and taking charge of IT provider management and the services they deliver.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with internal units and line-of-business leaders to evaluate and anticipate present and future information and technology needs.
  • Formulating and executing an IT engagement model to identify and shape demand, aligning IT services with business requirements.
  • Coordinating with the IT Service Desk and Infrastructure team to oversee the installation, upgrades, and configurations of hardware and software at.
  • Addressing end-user escalated issues and global system-related concerns escalated to the global IT team.
  • Maintaining an accurate inventory of hardware, software, and other pertinent technological assets.
  • This role will necessitate a hands-on approach to troubleshooting, architectural design, technology project oversight, and close monitoring of IT operations.
  • Ensuring the implementation of security and compliance policies (ITGC) and GDPR, while also ensuring IT compliance with local regulations.
  • Overseeing the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of enterprise data and systems without hindering digital transformation and growth.
  • Guaranteeing the delivery of IT services by overseeing service level agreements and monitoring the performance, reliability, and security of IT systems to support local business operations (following the ITIL framework). Serving as the point of contact for escalations (incidents/problems), change requests, and more.
  • Managing, supervising, and participating in departmental tasks, which includes task allocation, daily operations, and maintenance projects. Monitoring work activities and procedures.
  • Responsible for achieving results within the IT Infrastructure and Support unit, providing guidance, coaching, and direction to staff regarding performance management and resource allocation.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of the workforce plan to enhance the effectiveness of the current and future workforce in alignment with business priorities.
  • Fostering a culture of learning from failures and encouraging openness to new work methodologies, risk, and uncertainty.
  • Facilitating the streamlining of infrastructure and technologies to reduce complexity and enhance business agility.
  • Collaborating closely with procurement to contract local IT services and monitoring supplier deliverables in accordance with SLAs within the IT department's purview.
  • Contributing to the HQIT budgeting process, including costs and resource allocation.
  • Managing IT HQ contracts with technology vendors such as telecommunication companies and hardware providers, particularly in relation to infrastructure and service desk services.

The Successful Applicant

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Able to coordinate the operations of an organization's IT service unit to achieve set objectives.
  • Skilled in operating, installing, and troubleshooting computer systems and network to ensure efficient IT operations
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of the Higher Education Business & financial acumen.
  • Ability to understand, plan, track and be accountable for department budgets, proficient in building detailed



Additional requirements:

  • Ability to succeed in a dynamic, rapidly changing highly matrixed business environment.
  • Strong, proven record of delivering multiple IT projects and services to support business initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong people and teamwork and interpersonal skills at all organizational levels, ability to identify and leverage the right people, processes, and tools to achieve planned results on time and on budget.
  • Competent in ITIL and service architecture as well as working knowledge of software design, prototyping and testing.
  • Project management background. Good knowledge of project, risk and operations management
  • Good written and communication skills in English.
