About Our Client

I am pleased to be partnering with Guy's & St Thomas' Foundation based in SE1 to build their newly created digital team. The email marketing lead will specifically be focusing on three NHS charities which are: Guy's & St Thomas' Charity, Guy's Cancer Charity and Evelina London Children's Charity, which are all part of the Foundation supporting Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

The email marketing lead will enable and empower teams to talk to supporters through email communications. Working closely with the digital marketing manager and the supporter experience team to develop the email marketing strategy and ensure supporters look forward to seeing an email from the charities in their inbox.

Job Description

The role sits within the Communications and Engagement department, which works in a matrix set up to provide dedicated support across the breadth of the Foundation's work. It plays a central role in our charities team which includes dedicated funding and fundraising teams as well as colleagues embedded in the Trust.

The email marketing lead will enable and empower teams to talk to the charities' supporters through email. Working closely with the digital marketing manager and the supporter experience team to develop the email marketing strategy and ensure supporters look forward to seeing an email from the charity in their inbox.

  • Use your knowledge of email excellence to bring surprise and delight to the inboxes of the supporters, contributing to the quality of their supporter experience.
  • Manage email programmes, planning, calendar and reporting across the organisation.
  • Develop the email marketing strategy for the foundations charities that meets the needs of the strategy and audiences.
  • Develop and roll out a decentralised approach to email, understanding and supporting the email needs of other teams.
  • Be the email communications expert, giving support to teams using our ESP and being able to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Work with teams across the organisation to devise audience first email plans and journeys.
  • Manage the flow of email data, helping to run and improve processes.
  • Ensure we are making the most of email as a channel across tech and innovation.
  • Train and support teams across the organisation to plan, build, test and send their emails.
  • Use data and insight to build on best practice to test and continually optimise emails.
  • Be hands on with writing, editing, building and sending brilliant emails.

The Successful Applicant

In order to create an excellent digital team, the Foundation will need people who bring different experiences and backgrounds. With that in mind, they would value hearing from you even if you do not meet all the criteria below:

  • Experience of running a large scale, audience centred email marketing programme in the commercial or not-for-profit sectors.
  • A proven track record in creating engaging, inspiring and effective email communications.
  • An in depth understanding and experience of email service providers and their advanced features such as deliverability, personalisation and automation.
  • Experience of working with, supporting and training teams on email platforms and email best practice.
  • Demonstrable experience of communicating with a wide range of supporters with varied audience needs.
  • Experience in reporting, evaluating and testing.
  • Experience of managing stakeholder relationships and agencies.
  • A strong understanding of web accessibility and usability principles.
  • Excellent knowledge of GDPR, PECR and how to ensure compliance.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, ESPs and other email related software.
  • A commitment of Foundation's DEI principles and putting them into practice throughout your work.
  • A highly collaborative approach to understanding the needs of other teams and enable and empower them by developing their understanding of email marketing best practice.
  • An understanding of user experience design, and visual design principles as applied to email marketing.

Salary banding £40'000-£45'000
