About Our Client

A major NHS Trust with significant portfolio around Leeds is carrying out a range of maintenance, minor capital works, and improvements such as re-roofing, ward improvements, Tech improvements, maintenance etc.

Job Description

The post holder will have responsibilities for the project management and construction management of several highly complex schemes in the range £50k to £5m and may have a portfolio of schemes up to a value of £10m annually.

Financially the post holder will have delegated responsibility to monitor and control individual capital projects they are delivering; this will include planning and forecasting expenditure within the Trust's overall spending plans. The post holder needs to demonstrate value for money is obtained from the schemes they manage which form part of an annual budget of up to £40m.

The key dimensions to this post cover:

Selection and management of consultants, technical advisors and external design teams.

Liaison with business planners and other departments.

Procurement and management of consultants and contractors on a day to day basis.

Procurement of capital schemes using recognised NHS methodologies.

Compliance with corporate governance and audit requirements.

To provide a Trust-wide project management service to plan and deliver complex building and engineering capital schemes through a combination of external and internal resources.

To liaise between client departments, in-house and external design teams, and contractors to ensure schemes meet the brief requirements.

To deliver construction schemes to time and cost.

To manage all aspects of the construction procurement process, including day to day management of the consultant/contractor teams.

To be responsible for scheme delivery from initial feasibility through all stages to handover and post project evaluation.

To be accountable for the performance of individual projects.

The Successful Applicant

  • Proactive with the ability to 'get things done' managing multiple projects simultaneously (varying in size from £5k - £250k, with some individual projects/programmes of works being up to £2-3m)
  • Ability to follow 'due process' but use 'common sense' and pragmatism in overcoming obstacles
  • Good communicator, approachable, can engage well with others to gain trust and respect
  • Can produce feasibility studies/estimates/financial forecasts
  • Can compile tender work packages and obtain quotations - understands how to use traditional procurement methods and Frameworks/DPS to procure consultants services and contractors
  • Can produce simple programmes (Ms Excel, Ms Project etc) and fortnightly updates
  • Can manage consultants, contractors and other suppliers (appointment to completion of the project)
  • IT literate (spreadsheets etc)
  • Regular (monthly) reporting needs to be consistent and accurate (usual programme, cost forecasting and issues management expected) and to follow Gateway processes
  • Technically proficient in building works and MEP
  • Acute hospital experience preferred (but any complex estates experience would be considered).

What's on Offer

This level role offers a salary of circa 45 - 60K equivalent depending on the band, and experience level of the individual. There will initially be a day rate paid equivalent to this salary level, with the opportunity for a permanent role down the line.
