Job Description

  1. Develop Integrated Category Strategies for complex, medium to high spend categories with significant business impact. Influencing total category spend in the range of £300m - £500m
  2. Create and sustain value-based relationships with relevant stakeholders (at 'Heads of' level) throughout Network Rail to support the full integration of category strategies and deliver on all risk, legislative and regulatory requirements
  3. Create a qualified savings pipeline, in collaboration with all relevant customers and stakeholders, approved by Finance and applicable to budgets
  4. Establish a collaborative way of working with all relevant customers and stakeholders that supports the successful transition of Integrated Category Strategies to Sourcing led execution
  5. Provide key input into developing an annual integrated category planning review, in collaboration with the Sourcing and Supplier Management teams, aligned with all relevant customers' and stakeholders' business objectives and priorities
  6. Recognised for their expert category knowledge and category management experience, providing specialist category management advice. Introduce innovation, expertise and ideas to deliver category led competitive advantage
  7. Conduct regular external category benchmark assessments, reflected in Integrated Category Strategies, to include competitor market watch assessments, category trend analysis, market dynamics and innovation
  8. Develop a Total Cost of Ownership category-based model to deliver full cost lifecycle value
  9. Lead a team of Category Managers and contribute to the development of the Category Management team to maximise value for the organisation by supporting and providing guidance to peers and input into training requirements and fostering teamwork

The Successful Applicant

  • Significant experience of category management, with demonstrable track record of developing and leading the execution of category strategies and delivery of defined value (including savings) within an infrastructure or engineering environment
  • A demonstrable level of line management experience
  • Solution driven, innovator, cost and value led
  • Proven level of negotiation and dispute resolution skill set
  • Experience with cross-functional collaborative working methods
  • Politically aware, with the ability to use direct and indirect influencing strategies
  • Demonstrable level of problem-solving experience and in large, complex organisations
