Job Description

  1. Develop and implement Integrated Category Strategies (ICS) across multi-Route and Region complex, medium cost and business risk assessed spend categories, influencing total category spend of up to £300m, using the full implementation of the Category Management Framework, to deliver multi-million pound savings and significant Network Rail wide business benefit.
  2. Create a qualified multi-million pound savings and benefits pipeline, in collaboration with all relevant customers and stakeholders, approved by Finance and applied to relevant budgets, in support of the C&P Director's cost savings target.
  3. Develop and implement category management innovation-based business cases, working in collaboration with relevant customers and stakeholders, to address existing business problems that are common across multiple Routes and Regions, that require category management expertise to solve.
  4. Implementation of business partnering led techniques, deploying an engaging, selling style and direct and indirect influencing skillset, to sustain long-term relationships with relevant stakeholders throughout Network Rail in the complex challenge of aggregating common category requirements into a single ICS and within a devolved organisation.
  5. Facilitate and manage changes throughout the ICS lifecycle, resultant from complex evolving business and specification requirements, in collaboration with relevant customers and stakeholders, where expert levels of indirect and direct influencing techniques and political savviness are required for the accurate management and reporting on cost, risk, legislative, regulatory and service performance indicators.
  6. Establish a collaborative way of working with all relevant customers and stakeholders that supports the successful transition of ICS to relevant Sourcing led execution, Supplier Management Strategy and align with business change frameworks, with the ambition to deliver beyond the maximum value approved, in support of the C&P Director's cost savings target.
  7. Develop and manage category management continuous improvement activities, category demand pipeline assessments and annual customer satisfaction surveys, to deliver accurate progress reporting against each ICS in the Balanced Scorecard and to lead cross-functional alignment/learnings, aligned the Mission and Vision.
  8. Proactively contribute to the development of the Category Management team by supporting colleagues, fostering team work, sharing best practice and providing input into category specific training requirements for the Commercial Academy, to support the route Services Contracts and Procurement best in class team ambition.
    Develop the external market supplier management engagement strategy within the Category Management team, to enable the implementation of good practice and move towards a recognised best in class capability, in support of the employer of choice ambition.

The Successful Applicant

  • Demonstrable level of negotiation and dispute resolution skill set
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrable experience of driving cost and service value from complex multi-divisional business environments
  • Ability to deliver defined relationship and commercial value and deliver continuous improvement value
  • Experienced with agile, cross-functional collaborative working methods
  • Politically savvy, with the proven ability to use direct and indirect influencing strategies at an executive level
  • Demonstrable level of problem-solving experience of complex category specific challenges
