Job Description

The successful candidate will likely have the following responsibilities:

  • Management of the accurate and timely production of financial returns required for financial reporting, including statutory reporting, internal reporting, reporting to shareholder and other stakeholders.
  • Lead on technical advice for Group and training for the team on the difference in accounting treatments for the team. Including sharing knowledge to the team on the contractual Agreements. Oversight of the accounting treatment of the following for a range of functions and areas of the group.
  • Manage the integrity of the Ledger, reviewing comprehensive reconciliations and appropriate controls, hierarchy changes and delegated authorities, working with system accountants and SSC as required.
  • Effective line management of the Financial Accountant and other such team members as may be added to the Team
  • Management of the accounting system, reviewing comprehensive reconciliations and appropriate controls, ensuring the system is updated as per Group deadlines.
  • Liaising with the team and the business to drive efficiencies and consistency on finance processes and the overall accounting policies/practices. Manage the coordination of the statutory year end and group year-end process, ensuring delivery to various stakeholder deadlines and compliance with business planning.
  • Supervise a Group Technical function, supported where necessary by effective management of arrangements with external advisers.
  • Lead on the relationship with the external pensions actuary and manage the delivery of the statutory pension disclosures.
  • Act as the representative of the financial function in Business Continuity and Risk Register activity
  • Manage the budgeting and forecasting process for the balance sheet, collating analysis performed by junior team members and the FP&A team.
  • Develop and provide technical advice and training to ensure staff can fully utilise their potential
  • Build strong working relationships across all functions including identifying and leading on any training/guidance which could be cascaded out to the wider business.
  • Identify control weaknesses, recommending control procedures to reduce risk and develop procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coach, advise and challenge thinking to deliver a compliant and professional service that fits operating plans and processes.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other business areas and stakeholders.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate will likely have the following profile:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/CA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • IT literate with high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
  • Strong technical ability (IFRS, FREM, VAT, Payroll, etc.)
  • Previous experience managing and delivering a high performing team
  • Strong leadership and delegation skills
  • Logical and methodical approach to the role
  • Driven to drive efficiencies with a commercial focus
