Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and ambitious Category Manager to join a growing Procurement team and play a key role designing and implementing procurement strategies for Dudley Council.

Procurement is at the heart of Dudley Council's £1billion regeneration agenda, which involves IT transformation, housing improvements and the delivery of services for adults and children. We arrange contracts for a wide variety of goods, services and works each year, and we are in an exciting period to develop and deliver system change across the organisation.

As Senior Category Manager, you will be responsible for leading a small team to design and implement procurement strategies, resulting in the award of robust, fit for purpose contracts. You will need to influence and support business departments and leaders to help them achieve time, cost and quality objectives and manage competing demands.

Working alongside the Procurement Business Partners on our multi-year council wide transformation programme, you will ensure that we have solid foundations on which to build our vision for the future, providing technical expertise to the programme, and supporting the delivery of major projects.

The Successful Applicant

· An excellent understanding and experience of the procurement lifecycle.

· An excellent understanding of the legislation and governance controlling the public sector procurement environment.

· Experience in creating and publishing a variety of tender packs for the marketplace, including complex procurements.

· A degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, or a Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) qualification (or be working towards this).

We offer a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role can either be performed working from home, office based, or a mix of the two.
