Job DescriptionAs the Group Financial Accountant your role will:Lead and manage the financial accounting team, ensuring the provision of high quality financial record keeping, controls and proceduresLead the production of group statutory accounts and returns in accordance with professional standardsAccountable for the controls and full operations of the Finance and Payroll systems supporting the full breadth of organisational activityManage payroll, accounts receivables/payables, treasury management and systems accounting functionsLeading on the local government statutory accounts preparationProvide expert technical advice to senior stakeholders on a range of finance matters including financial modelling on debt and capital, taxation and auditDesign, implement and maintain the systems required for delivery the objectives of your function to support the Combined Authority in achieving its vision.Take a pro-active corporate role in the management of your function including participation and delivery of your directorate's objectives.Responsible for demonstrating commitment to corporate processes and ensuring that these are delivered at all times.Be a visible and enthusiastic manager, encouraging partnership working across the organisation.Influence, develop and motivate your team, taking a positive approach to their development and your own.The Successful ApplicantThe successful candidate for the Group Financial Accountant position will:Have a relevant professional accounting qualificationHave practical experience of successfully performing in a similar roleHold a degree or has equivalent relevant experienceHave extensive experience of interpreting local government funding and financing regulations as applied to treasury management and statutory accounting activities, and related reporting standardsHave managed and developed a multifunctional professional finance teamHave prioritised, planned and organised own workloads to manage expectations and deadlines.Have extensive experience of producing local government statutory financial statementsHave developed and maintained financial systems and related internal controls.Have highly developed skills in capital and treasury accountingHave significant experience of managing and developing complex financial processes with multiple stakeholdersWhat's on OfferAnnual salary of between £54,000- £60,000Hybrid working- in the office c. 2-3 days a weekFree travel cardMembership offered into the Local Government Pension Scheme which remains one of the most generous schemes around.
