Job Description

As a Senior Financial Accountant you will be responsible for leading the financial accounting team as a role model to create a culture of continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing financial schedules and data to ensure that the information provided to the Board and contained within the year end annual accounts is accurate and provides a true and fair view of NHSBT financial position
  • Completing the NHSBT fixed asset information system and the transfer and reconciliation of financial information from the fixed asset system to the General Ledger accurately
  • Completing NHSBT and Trust Fund Statutory Accounts, and Whole of Government Accounts submissions to HM Treasury, to required accounting and audit standards with appropriate working papers to support key figures and calculations.
  • Ensuring the accuracy and completeness of stock quantities and valuation.
  • Overseeing all VAT areas, these include; payables, receivables, income, P21/P22, partial recovery and business activities. Lead VAT meetings and liaising with external VAT consultants.
  • Interpreting and implementing new IFRS developments and standards.
  • Providing technical updates, training, advice, support, and consulting stake holders in relation to technical accounting complex issues and policy issues.

The Successful Applicant

The successful candidate for the Senior Financial Accountant role will have:

Experience and Knowledge

  • Significant knowledge and experience of operational and strategic financial management in a large organisation.
  • In-depth specialist knowledge and experience of the NHS and Government FReM accounting regulations for fixed assets, leased properties and rentals.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of the general external NHS environment and NHS finance policies is a key facet to this role.
  • Knowledge, understanding and practical experience of the complex, cross-disciplined, inter-relationships across a manufacturing and service supply chain.
  • In-depth knowledge of Charity Law and Charity Accounting Regulations.
  • Knowledge of Auditing Standards and the financial control environment.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).

Qualifications and Training

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience.
  • Possession of a recognised CCAB/CIMA Accounting Qualification with post qualification experience.
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).
