Job Description

To provide professional and executive procurement support to a broad range of academic researchers, administrators and technical staff. To maximise the return on research grants and revenue spend in terms of improved facilities, research and teaching & learning outcomes, and reinforces the University's world-class status as a research-led institution. To manage end-to-end major equipment, works, goods and services procurements; conduct detailed spend analyses; to identify, create and deliver strategic opportunities that will improve value; and to apply best practice supplier relationship and contract management techniques.

  • To engage with key stakeholders in Schools, Colleges and Professional Service Departments, to agree procurement priorities and deliver on the support and processes required to achieve these on time and within budget. This will include specific time-bound programmes / projects, and one-off equipment, works and services acquisitions. To support routine commodity purchases by providing professional sourcing advice and market intelligence, and execution of term contracts that maximise value for money, engender sustainable and ethical sourcing, and ensure supply chain resilience.
  • To manage supplier performance against appropriate Key Performance Indicators, continually seeking service improvements and in-life cost savings. Managing key supplier / client relationships with our main customers.
  • To provide mentoring and development support to more junior members of the respective Category Team, and engage fully with the post-holder's own personal development agenda and wider team succession planning.
  • To analyse expenditure records, seeking opportunities to reduce duplication and inappropriate sourcing; identifying areas for consolidation of business onto fewer and better suppliers; and creating strategic relationships that deliver innovation and true partnership benefits. To work as part of the wider Finance Team to streamline processes across the University in goods, services and works procurement.
  • To assist in the preparation of annual commodity plans that ensure the Strategic Procurement Strategy remains relevant and fully aligned with the organisations Strategy 2030 and the underpinning vision, purpose and values.
  • To represent the relevant Category and/or Senior Management Team, if appropriate, on influential internal and external groups, where this demonstrably enhances the status of, and benefits to, the University.

The Successful Applicant

  • Public Procurement Experience is extremely desirable - appreciation and knowledge is essential. Candidates must be aware of the regulations and legislation that govern our Procurement activity for goods, services (>£50k) and works (>£2mil).

  • MCIPS Accredited (or working towards)
  • 5 years public procurement experience OR several years private procurement with public sector knowledge
  • Leadership/Coaching/Mentoring/Management ability
  • Strategic Project Capability (can demonstrate managing projects with complexity, risk and high value)



What's on Offer

Grade UE08, Salary Range: £45,585 - £54,395 + excellent benefits package and pension

Open-ended Contract, Full time (35 Hours per week)
