Job Description

The Financial Controller will be responsible for leading the Financial Control function of Harding+, with a key focus on leadership, management, policy and process, controls and governance ownership. Ensuring Harding+ remains compliant in all areas, whilst optimising internal controls, maintaining and improving processes and improving through leveraging of technology and simplification.

Key Role Objective and Accountabilities:

  • Management and development of the Financial Control team of 20 people, incorporating accounts receivable, accounts payable, global payroll, management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, audit, inventory cycle count posting, tax and treasury, with 6 direct reports;
  • Working as part of the Finance Leadership Team to streamline processes across the wider team, to support each other and to share knowledge;
  • A key member of the Harding+ 'Strategic Delivery Group' (SDG), responsible for delivering Company strategy whilst identifying and managing key risks and issues;
  • Building strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders including the executive team, banks, advisors, lenders and auditors;
  • Providing support and guidance to colleagues on finance matters as required;
  • Ongoing validation, posting and reporting of inventory cycle counts, for £70m of owned stock on ships and in warehouses globally;
  • Ensure controls maintained for outsourced company payroll including UK, ship based and overseas;
  • Responsibility for the accounts receivable and accounts payable function;
  • Indirect tax return filing and payments, for UK and international VAT and import duties, working with selected international agencies;
  • Overseeing the management accounts function, including P&L, balance sheet, indirect cashflow and all associated reporting;
  • Cash flow management, including weekly position and rolling 13 week forecast;
  • Management of multi-currency bank accounts including reconciliations, payments and receipts;
  • Playing a key part in the annual audit, supporting auditors to ensure a smooth and timely audit annually;
  • Operating the asset based lending function with all appropriate controls in place;
  • Ongoing review and improvement of the Financial Control function, including ongoing review and maintenance of key controls and streamlining of processes;
  • Supporting CFO with ad hoc tasks when required.

The Successful Applicant

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • ACCA, ACA or CIMA Qualified;
  • Experienced Financial Controller with a clear view of "what good looks like";
  • Possession of excellent managerial skills;
  • Able to prioritise workload and communicate to stakeholders as required, managing expectations whilst continuing to deliver a professional service;
  • Working knowledge of inventory accounting;
  • Experienced in P&L, balance sheet and indirect cashflow compilation and reporting;
  • Background in short term direct cashflow forecasting;
  • Experienced in VAT principals;
  • Passionate about simplification and leveraging technology as part of a continuous improvement agenda;
  • Proactive, able to plan own workload whilst achieving deadline through structured planning, excellent organization and strong time management skills;
  • Resilient, calm under pressure, and strong emotional intelligence;
  • Passionate about the quality of output, and an intolerance for inefficiency and inconsistency;
  • Shares own knowledge and experience, and coaches team members to aid their development;
  • Demonstrable ability to both prioritise and delegate;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and sharp intellect, with the ability to build successful relationships with others through demonstration of emotional intelligence;
  • Able to negotiate, influence and persuade others to achieve win-win positive outcomes;
