The team supports the development, implementation and delivery of procurement strategies and schemes through providing professional advice and guidance that positively reinforces and delivers financial and operational efficiencies, compliance to internal and external legislation and the use of innovative technologies whilst ensuring the patient and our colleagues are at the forefront of what we do.

The Team and the service we offer is expanding, with further reliance on regions to work more collaboratively to drive further financial efficiencies through economies of scales, but working with other likeminded organisations to change the way in which the NHS procures goods, services and works to drive further added value from new and/or current commercial commitments that are already in place.

The Team work across a number of national networks working collaboratively with partners in Bristol, Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford as well as larger collaborative functions such as the Peninsula Purchasing Supply Alliance (PPSA).

Job Description

The Deputy Head of Clinical Procurement plays an important part in supporting the Head of Sourcing and the Deputy Head of Sourcing and Non Clinical to innovate the way in which Procurement provide a strategic sourcing service as well as leading, managing and supporting the clinical sourcing work stream

This position is pivotal to leading the clinical work stream to develop BSW ICS wide category strategies that deliver value through innovative sourcing processes, robust contract management and efficient and cost effective supply chains.

The role is essential to building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders across BSW ICS, representing the Procurement Service at strategic and operational forums providing expertise and insights on delivering value for money whilst maintaining compliance with internal regulations and legislation.

The successful candidate is empowered to lead a work stream of circa 14 people with 4 direct reports, owning all elements of the sourcing cycle from Project Launch through to Implementation, navigating the clinical work stream and stakeholders through developing procurement strategies, executing the category strategy, negotiating effectively with suppliers, implementing contract management routines as well as providing support and guidance to all.

The role will provide an amazing opportunity to be exposed to Executive Leads and Board Sponsors locally and regionally. The Role will provide an opportunity to network with like-minded senior leads across the BSW ICS region, the south west and nationally.

Unlike any other role in Procurement, the role is pivotal to developing relationships with clinical leaders across the BSW ICS and provides an opportunity to become fully engaged and embedded in how healthcare services are delivered in the acute and community setting.

Working in partnership with clinical leaders, you will be empowered to shape the way in which care is provided, leading and supporting sourcing activity that introduces new innovative technologies that improve patient experience across the BSW ICS.

The Successful Applicant

  • Lead a team of procurement professionals to deliver an agreed annual work plan.
  • Lead and support developing, delivering and implementing category strategies within the Clinical Work stream.
  • Lead and support negotiations with suppliers to deliver value as part robust contract management routines.
  • Effectively drive sourcing strategies that align and integrate the BSW ICS, maximising buying power and an aggregate spend model.
  • Ensure the BSW ICS complies with local and national governance and have a good understanding of the theory and application of Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (however not essential).
  • Can demonstrate excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills and the ability to create and maintain collaborative relationships
  • Pioneer financial and environmental sustainability with a focus on implementing Social Value factors in everything we do.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and the ability to manipulate large sets of data creating meaningful and concise business insights that can be communicated to the stakeholders.
