About Our Client

The B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Acute Hospital Alliance Procurement Service deliver procurement services to the following organisations:

  • Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust;
  • Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
  • Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust
  • Community Sites within the B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board
  • Sulis Hospital Bath (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust)

The team supports the development, implementation and delivery of procurement strategies through providing professional advice and guidance that positively reinforces and delivers financial and operational efficiencies, compliance to internal and external legislation and the use of innovative technologies whilst ensuring the patient and our colleagues are at the forefront of what we do.

The Team and the service we offer is expanding, with further reliance on regions to work more collaboratively to drive further financial efficiencies through economies of scales, but working with other like-minded organisations to change the way in which the NHS procures goods, services and works to drive further added value from new and/or current commercial commitments that are already in place.

Through wider collaboration, working with our clinical and non-clinical colleagues, we deliver economies of scale, better data sharing, best practice, remove unwarranted variation from our practices and supply base, to maximise value and efficiencies.

Job Description

The role enables an individual to work autonomously, developing relationships locally, regionally and nationally, working with colleagues to deliver an annual work plan as well as supporting junior members of the team in delivering the Category Strategy and navigating business as usual tasks.

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring procurement professional to develop their skill set, through the management and delivery of strategically critical procurements, as well as providing an opportunity to develop management and leadership skills by managing junior members of the Team.

A key part of the role is to develop a wide range of stakeholder relationships and establish clinical and non-clinical reference groups to further discussions about current and future opportunity. The role will also provide opportunity to expand your network and develop relationships across the region as well as on the national stage.

The role also requires an understanding of the procurement strategy, local and national legislation as well as market factors that are impacting our professional and personal lives today. The role is seen as a leadership position, of which there will be an expectation from the stakeholders that the post holder will help lead and guide them through a range of procurement processes to get to an outcome that is desirable for the Trusts.

Supplier relationship management and good contract management skills are essential as part of this role and you will be expected to liaise with stakeholders to ensure our partners are obtaining value for money from current contracts as well as supporting the development of innovative ideas to change the way in which health care is being delivered in the acute and community setting.

The Successful Applicant

  • Working with our colleagues, develop a 3 to 5 year category work plan that embraces collaborative thinking, innovative technology and impacts positively on the
  • Deliver, record and report financial savings through procurement led activity.
  • Lead, support and guide colleagues and co-workers through procurement processes with varying degrees of complexity; from low value quotations exercises to complex local tenders.
  • Have track record in analysing and interpreting various sources of data, turning data in to meaningful, insightful and easily understandable information.
  • Be able to demonstrate through past experience and real world examples the ability to influence key decision makers and ensure colleagues are bought in to category strategies.
  • Demonstrate skills in negotiation to achieve the overall most cost effective outcome whilst maintaining quality, meeting recurring cost savings targets and more importantly continually looking to improving patient experience and care.
  • Have experience in contract management from initial conception through to termination, monitoring Suppliers performance in line with the commitments of the contract as well as the Authorities.
  • Although not essential, have an understanding of Public Contracts Regulations 2015 and the current state of the transition to the new Procurement Bill as well as an understanding of the need to be open and transparent in a public sector environment.
  • Liaise with a range of stakeholders at all levels to standardise and rationalise the goods and services utilised, with the aim of removing unwarranted variation and driving better commercial outcomes.
  • Comfortable in presenting information back to the Senior Team within Procurement, as well as presenting to wider stakeholder groups at all levels.
