Job Description

The role of a Case Officer includes:

  • Managing a portfolio of cases consistent with the Principles of Better Regulation:
    • Performing second level technical and analytical reviews of companies' annual reports and accounts, or specific aspects of corporate reporting, to decide whether there are substantive points of possible material non-compliance with accounting standards and relevant reporting requirements and recommending appropriate action to raise with the company, based on the detailed review performed by a Case Reviewer.
    • Preparing initial and subsequent formal correspondence to companies for review.
    • Analysing company responses, undertaking additional research as necessary, and recommending appropriate and proportionate regulatory action for decision by the Technical Director/Case Directors, with input from Senior Advisors as necessary.
    • Preparing Case Summaries and Press Notices on cases for publication.
    • Preparing and circulating high quality briefings and other documents for case discussion with the Senior Advisors and taking the lead in these discussions, bearing in mind the views and advice of the CRR Management Team and Senior Advisors.
    • Participating in meetings with companies.
    • Prioritising, balancing and managing work on concurrent cases, ensuring that all cases progress satisfactorily on a timely basis in line with the Operating Procedures for reviewing corporate reporting.
    • Maintaining appropriate electronic records during the case.
  • Researching and writing CRR thematic reviews on key accounting and reporting topics.
  • Maintaining and developing CRR's relationships with internal and external parties:
    • Collaborating actively with other departments as required.
    • Attending meetings, corresponding with and presenting to other UK regulatory bodies.
  • Maintaining and developing technical knowledge and understanding of accounting standards, the Companies Act and relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Carrying out technical, organisational and administrative tasks and projects in support of CRR's work on matters as required by the CRR Management Team.

The Successful Applicant

Candidates must be fully qualified members of ICAEW, ACCA, ICAS or CAI (or equivalents) and have:

  • Significant post-qualification experience of applying IFRSs and UK GAAP at Senior Manager level in a major accounting firm or at a similar level within industry.
  • A good knowledge of corporate reporting requirements and best practice.
  • A good understanding of commerce and business.
  • A good understanding of the regulatory environment.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent research and analytic skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to manage, and prioritise, a portfolio of cases concurrently.
